Herman served pupillage with Mr. Kenneth Lee, Ms. Priscilia Lam (now Ms. Priscilia Lam SC), Mr. Lincoln Cheung, and Head of Chambers Dr. Solomon Lam. He has developed a broad civil practice and accepts instructions in all areas of work including all areas of Chambers’ specialisms. Herman regularly appears in hearings of all natures in the Court of First Instance and District Court level and can conduct cases in English and Chinese (including Mandarin).

SELECTED CASES

HCA 2493 / 2024 – Represented the defendant listed company in which the Court dismissed the entire action against the defendant at a hearing for interlocutory injunction.

HCA 1281 / 2023 – In a commercial dispute claiming over HK$17M, represented the plaintiff to successfully request further and better particulars from the defendants after a 3-hour argument before a Master.

HCA 312 / 2023, [2024] HKCFI 476 – Represented the defendant to successfully resist default judgment and obtain relief from sanction to file pleadings, in a defamation action with construction context.

DCCJ 2895 / 2024 – In a dispute about the area of car parking spaces, represented the plaintiff to successfully resist a striking out (on the claim) and summary judgment (on the counterclaim) application by the defendants after a 3-hour argument before a Master.

DCCJ 3966 / 2021 (pending judgment) – Represented a former solicitor to defend a claim seeking to refund overcharged legal fees. At Day 1 of the trial after opening submissions, the Court made a Consent Order inter alia to dismiss the claim with costs.

DCCJ 4616 / 2020, [2025] HKDC 855 – Represented the plaintiff landlord to successfully claim vacant possession of a land where the defendant alleged adverse possession, after a 3-day trial. Also represented the plaintiff to successfully resist leave to appeal in [2025] HKDC 1686. (With Solomon Lam)

Represented the plaintiff in commencing a DCCJ action to sue the second-tier recipient in a civil fraud case after obtaining Norwich Pharmacal Order from a bank. The action was amicably settled after mediation.

Representing the claimant in an ongoing HKIAC ad hoc arbitration about unpaid fees of over US$400k from an international transport contract.

Provided a written opinion to a listed company for the purpose of addressing queries by the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Provided a written opinion on Hong Kong contract law for an arbitral tribunal in an SCIA arbitration.
